Upstate Medical University Nurse Practitioner Residency and Fellowship (UMUNPR) Program: Apply Now

All applicants for the UMUNPR Residency Program must apply through Red Cap using the link below. Applicants who apply by May 1, 2024, will be given priority. Applicants do not need to be licensed to apply but will need to be fully licensed by the program start of September 1, 2024.

Applications will open on January 2nd. Licensing and credentialing do not need to be active at the time of application, however, it must be in place by September 1st when clinics begin. This includes the following licenses: RN, APRN, and DEA Controlled Substance.

Applicant Qualifications

  • Licensed and nationally certified nurse practitioner focusing on primary care, family medicine, or psychiatric/mental health.
  • Graduate of an accredited Master's or Doctorate-level program and have obtained a certification and license to practice no longer than 18 months before the start of the residency program.

Application Process

The UMUNPR runs from September to September. Applications for the 2024-2025 year open on January 2nd.

Step 1

The first step you'll take in the process is to submit your application. Applications should be submitted by May 1, 2024. They will remain open after May 1, but candidates who apply by May 1 will be given top priority.

Step 2

Once your application has been submitted, our team will begin a holistic review. Qualified candidates will then be scheduled for interviews with the project team and the clinical sites. Subsequent interviews may be required.

Step 3

If you are selected for the residency program, you will next need to accept your Residency Position and review all program terms and conditions.

Step 4

Congratulations! You are now ready to begin the UMUNPR residency program through SUNY Upstate.
