About The Program

Our master of science degree program educates registered nurses with bachelor's degrees to work as nurse practitioners. The program also prepares nurses for roles in leadership, consulting, education and research. Students currently enrolled in the program are studying to become nurse practitioners in four tracks: adult geriatric primary care, family, family psychiatric mental health or pediatric.

The master's program builds on your undergraduate nursing education and focuses on applying advanced theory and evidence-based data to clinical practice. The curriculum includes courses in the advanced practice role, nursing theory, family theory, informatics, quality and safety, leadership and health care policy, research and advanced pathophysiology and pharmacology. You may take practicum courses as electives to strengthen your advanced practice skills. You also may participate in faculty-sponsored research or individual research projects under faculty guidance, or practice teaching or nursing administration.

BS to Doctor of Nursing Practice

Our academic BS to Doctor of Nursing Practice (BS-DNP) degree is ideal for registered nurses with a bachelor’s degree who want to become nurse practitioners trained to provide the highest level of patient care using evidence-based practice, while contributing to general healthcare quality improvement. Nurse practitioners learning in our program acquire advanced clinical judgment and expertise needed to assess, diagnose, plan, implement, manage and evaluate holistic plans of care. This terminal degree in nursing is the only path for advance care nurses to significantly contribute to the global future of nursing through leadership, research and service. The variety of specializations include: Pediatrics, Family, Family Psychiatric Mental Health.

Doctor of Nursing Practice

The College of Nursing offers an online part-time post-master DNP program. The DNP degree prepares nurse experts for the highest level of advanced practice, expanding the APRN role in leadership, health policy and advocacy, interprofessional practice and information technology. With classes taught by expert faculty with terminal degrees in diverse advance care practices, the program offers students from any state in the United States of America to receive highest-quality education without relocating.

Post Graduate Advanced Certificate Program

Post Graduate Advanced Certificates in Nursing are designed for those advanced practice nurses who are already certified as nurse practitioners or clinical nurse specialists and want to add to their academic knowledge and clinical skills by obtaining another NP specialization certification. Our program offers dedicated resources to support the collaborative clinical placement process with students and clinical partners throughout NYS. Upon graduation students will meet the criteria to take the National Certification Board exam as a nurse practitioner in the specialization of their choice.
